Remains of a late Republican Roman farm villa at Francolise, with a residential quarter, baths and production facilities.

In the territory of Francolise, in the ancient ager Calenus near the border with the ager Falernus, excavations carried out between 1962 and 1964 by the British School at Rome brought to light the Roman villas of San Rocco and Posto. The best known is the San Rocco villa, a farm villa inhabited from the end of the 2nd century BC to the 2nd century AD, later enlarged to about 4,400 square metres. The residential part was arranged around a large peristyle with a garden and marble fountain, reception rooms with mosaic floors and a small bath suite. In the working part, by contrast, you can make out tanks for settling oil, an olive press and a brick kiln. We recommend this visit to understand how a real Roman farm worked.
