Ancient Cales, a Roman colony with a theatre and baths, in the countryside of Calvi Risorta.

Cales was first a centre of the Ausones and then, from 334 BC, a Roman colony. It was famous for its black-glaze pottery and its wines. In the archaeological area you can see the theatre, the baths and stretches of the ancient roads. Not far away is the medieval cathedral of Calvi, built partly with Roman materials.
