The castle of Montecalvo Irpino, at the highest point of the village: mentioned in 1137 and turned into a noble residence after the 1456 earthquake.

The castle of Montecalvo Irpino occupies the highest point of the village. A chronicle of 1137 tells that King Roger II pitched camp at the foot of the fortress, a sign of its importance already in Norman times. Over time the building changed a great deal: the original towers have been lost, and bastions were added on the north-west side. After the earthquake of 1456 it became a noble residence. The fief passed between several families, down to the Pignatelli, who held it until the abolition of feudalism in 1806. Today the imposing ground-floor structures and some ruins of the upper floors remain. We suggest climbing up here for the sweeping view over the village.
