A 17th-century suburban villa built by the Acquaviva d'Aragona family near the Royal Palace of Caserta, inspired by the Roman villa.

Near the Royal Palace of Caserta stands Palazzo del Boschetto, a suburban villa commissioned by Andrea Matteo Acquaviva d'Aragona, second Prince of Caserta, who held the fief between 1595 and 1635. The prince had it built near the family residence, Palazzo della Torre, as part of an intense building programme that also included the completion of the baronial palace and the Belvedere of San Leucio. The villa followed the model of the Roman villa: a garden with statues, landscape paintings, vaults decorated with grotesques and walls punctuated by niches with sculptures. We also like to imagine the maze designed for the guests' amusement. We recommend discovering it as a testament to Caserta before the Bourbons, when the city was the fief of the Acquaviva family.
