An 18th-century palazzo designed by Luigi Vanvitelli for the Marquis of Squillace, later a manufactory, barracks and housing.

Behind the gardens of the Royal Palace stands Palazzo de Gregorio, commissioned in 1754 by Charles of Bourbon for the Marquis of Squillace, Leopoldo de Gregorio, and designed by the court architect Luigi Vanvitelli. We like to think of it as a lesser-known piece of the great Bourbon Caserta, born in the same years as the royal building site. Its life has been eventful: in 1796 Ferdinand IV bought it to house a cloth manufactory, then in the French period it became a cotton mill; from 1851 it passed to the military and at the end of the 19th century to private owners, while after the war it took in families left homeless. We recommend viewing it from the outside as a witness to many different stories.
