In the basement of the Royal Palace, a museum telling the story of Vanvitelli's building site, the Bourbon court and the art of the Caserta area.

Going down into the basement of the Royal Palace, adapted as exhibition space without altering the original structures, we discover a museum explaining how the great palace came into being. Objects and documents illustrate Vanvitelli's work and the Caserta area, of which the royal residence is the most important monument. The tour also tells the story of life at the Bourbon court in the 18th and 19th centuries and presents works of art long kept in the storerooms of Campania's heritage authorities and finally returned to the public. We recommend including it in your visit to the Royal Palace: it helps you better understand what you see on the upper floors.
