Historic Centre of Candida

The old core of Candida arose around the 10th century around the castle, of which only a few stretches of wall remain: its outline can be imagined today among vegetable plots and gardens. We love getting lost in the steep, narrow lanes, which still preserve the original street plan of the elliptical medieval stronghold, enclosed by the circular route of Via Castello.Outside the stronghold the village grew along an important trade route, today's Via Roma, and along Corso Umberto the Borgo di Santa Candida developed. Right at the crossroads of the two streets, in the 14th century, the Augustinians built their monastic complex: we recommend following this route on foot.
