The mother church of Salza Irpina in its medieval historic centre, hit by the 1980 earthquake, which brought down its bell tower and roof.

Along the main axis of the historic centre of Salza Irpina, a village of medieval origin on the slopes of Monte Serrone, stands the mother church of Saints Peter and Paul. Together with the monumental entrance gate, the church of San Sebastiano and the Capozzi and Imperiali palaces, it is one of the village's notable features, in the valley of the Salzola stream. The church bears the marks of Irpinia's seismic history: after the earthquakes of 1694 and 1732, the 1980 earthquake brought down the bell tower and the roof. We like to visit it walking along Via Vigliante, Via Cittadella and Via Roma, the streets that cross the old village, a few kilometres from Avellino.
