In the 17th-century Alcantarine convent, the civic museum of Santa Maria Capua Vetere tells of the Risorgimento and local history.
The Civic Museum and Historical Archive of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, established by resolution in 1870, changed premises several times before settling in the former Alcantarine convent, designed by Francesco Antonio Picchiatti and inaugurated in 1684. Since 2003 the complex has been the Palazzo della Cultura, bringing together the museum, the historical archive and the municipal library.The richest section is devoted to the Risorgimento, but we also like discovering the rooms on the Alifana Railway, minerals, historic postcards, the ruling dynasties and local painters. We suggest stepping into the Church of San Bonaventura, part of the complex, to admire a canvas by Luca Giordano.
