Church of the Congregazione della Sanità

In the centre of San Lorenzello, the Church of the Congregazione della Sanità was commissioned in the early 17th century by Fra Ruffino da Napoli, a Capuchin preacher, and completed in 1628. Destroyed by the 1688 earthquake, it was rebuilt and enlarged several times in the 18th century, when the bell tower and dome were added. It is the seat of a lay confraternity whose rules were approved by Ferdinand IV in 1777.The façade is sober, with Doric pilasters and a portal in local stone with two lions at its base. We like the majolica panel by Antonio Giustiniani from 1727 with the Madonna and Child in the pediment, and the bell tower clad in yellow and green tiles. Inside, 19th-century frescoes of the Holy Family and the 1748 high altarpiece await you.
