Church of Santa Maria della Misericordia, known as the Carmine, in the monastic complex built in Airola in 1608 by the Benedictines of Montevergine.

At the centre of the monastic complex built in 1608 by the Benedictine monks of Montevergine we find the church of Santa Maria della Misericordia, which everyone in Airola calls the Carmine. The monastery stretches over two wings and the church occupies its heart, like a meeting point between the life of the religious and that of the town.We like pausing at the entrance to the portico, where two niches hold the 1765 marble statues of St Benedict of Nursia and St William of Vercelli, founders of the two orders. You then pass through an arched vestibule decorated with medallions of monastic saints: this was once considered one of the most beautiful churches in town.
