Church of Sant'Angelo a Porta Nuova in Airola

This church in Airola appears in the sources as early as the beginning of the 17th century, as a parish church. The name recalls a gate that opened onto the new stretch of road between Piazza Annunziata and the Borgo district: the gate is gone, but the name has remained.The oldest parish register dates from 1698 and tells of a community growing strongly between 1710 and 1810, when the population multiplied. Today the church is closed, so we suggest admiring it from the outside, strolling up the lane that bears its name.
