Main church of the hamlet of Santa Croce in Roccaromana, with a relic of the Cross and an 1899 fresco by Galloppi.
In the hamlet of the same name in Roccaromana, the Church of Santa Croce is the main place of worship. It grew out of an older chapel dedicated to St Michael the Archangel, and the first official documents concerning it date from the 17th century. It has a single, simple and intimate nave.In a side chapel we are struck by the reliquary holding a fragment of the Cross of Christ, from which the dedication derives. We suggest looking up towards the apse, where an 1899 fresco by Vincenzo Galloppi tells of the finding of the Cross by St Helena.
