Church of San Cataldo

  • Visit: about 20 min

Roccaromana's Greek-cross mother church, born from a chapel of 1156, with an apse fresco by Vincenzo Galloppi.

The Church of San Cataldo is the mother church of Roccaromana. It grew out of a chapel of 1156 dedicated to the Annunziata, which stood within the walls of the old ducal palace and which in 1893 was transformed into the present building, on a Greek-cross plan.Inside, we like the 1913 apse fresco by Vincenzo Galloppi, showing St Cataldus saving some fishermen during a storm. We suggest also pausing at the statue and relic of the patron saint and at the statue of the Madonna della Neve, both very dear to the community.
