Norman Tower of Roccaromana

  • Visit: about 30 min
  • 411 m

On Monte Castello, in the hamlet of Statigliano in Roccaromana, the cylindrical Norman tower of about 18 metres, with views over the Volturno valley.

On the summit of Monte Castello, in the hamlet of Statigliano, rises the tower built by the Normans around 1100 on the remains of a Lombard structure. It is cylindrical, about 18 metres high, on two floors, with a cistern at its base, and served a defensive purpose.Bombed during the Second World War, it was rebuilt in 1948, then damaged by a storm and left abandoned until its restoration in 2016. We suggest climbing up here for the panorama: from the top your gaze takes in the upper, middle and lower Volturno valley for tens of kilometres.
