Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo in Sirignano

  • Visit: about 20 min
  • 265 m

The parish church of Sirignano, built in the early 14th century and heart of the festivities for the patron Saint Andrew.

On Piazza Principessa Rosa, a few steps from Palazzo Caravita, stands the parish church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo, built in the early 14th century. It is the centre of Sirignano's religious life and holds fine sacred objects, some donated by the community itself. A tradition from 1601 tells of a crucifix that is said to have given miraculous signs right here.We like experiencing the church during the days of the patron Saint Andrew, on 30 November, when the saint's procession is preceded by a parade of the gifts of the land. We also recommend the feast of the Battenti at the end of August, with worshippers dressed in white walking barefoot from Cimitile to the village: a moment of intense, heartfelt devotion.
