Three-aisled limestone church, considered the oldest complex in Gallo Matese, with phases between the 15th and 17th centuries.
Among the old stone houses of the old town of Gallo Matese stands the Church of San Simeone, one of the village's two churches. Scholars consider it the oldest complex in the village: its construction is placed, with some uncertainty, between the end of the 15th century and the first decades of the 17th, by local craftsmen.We like its sturdy structure of local limestone, with a nave and two aisles and a pitched roof on wooden trusses. Beneath the sacristy and part of the church are rooms with stone cross vaults. We recommend reaching it on a stroll through the lanes: it is a chance to discover the most authentic soul of this Matese mountain village.
