Letino's local-stone parish church on Piazza della Repubblica, with its entrance in the bell tower and 16th-century frescoes.

The Church of San Giovanni Battista is the parish church of Letino, dedicated to the patron saint celebrated on the first Sunday of September. It dominates the central Piazza della Repubblica and is built with local stone and marble, in a simple style that blends perfectly with the village's stone houses. We are intrigued by the unusual entrance, which opens right into the bell tower.Inside, we recommend looking for some 16th-century frescoes, an old wooden statue of the Baptist, substantially restored in the 1970s, and a bust of St Theodore. It is an ideal stop before climbing up to the sanctuary of Santa Maria del Castello, to discover two different sides of devotion in this Matese mountain village.
