The medieval village of Prata Sannita: stone houses, stepped lanes, walls with towers, four gates and a humpback bridge.
Prata Inferiore was founded between the 9th and 10th centuries, when the people of the plain moved up the hill to defend themselves against Saracen raids. The village reached its greatest extent in the 16th century and preserves stone houses, some carved into the rock, and narrow stepped lanes.We suggest following the walls with towers, well preserved on the east side towards the River Lete, and looking for the four gates, including Le Portelle and Porta di Lete. We like the parish church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, with its Gothic portal and Romanesque rose window, and, outside the walls, the medieval humpback bridge.
