In the Piedimonte district of Caserta, the Church of San Rufo, recorded as early as 1113, hides medieval frescoes and majolica floors.

On the slopes of the Caserta hills, in the district of Piedimonte, stands the Church of San Rufo, dedicated to the martyr of Capua and already mentioned in a bull of 1113. Built as a medieval building in tuff blocks, it has been altered over the centuries: today it has a gabled façade with a pediment, a bell gable and a single-nave interior. We love the effect of the side chapels, which suggest a second nave, and the dome of the Rosary Chapel, rare in Caserta. We recommend looking for the 15th-century frescoes of the Virgin and Saint George, the funerary cippus of 1556 and the 18th-century majolica floors from the Massa workshop in Maddaloni.
