An ancient church in the Aldifreda district of Caserta, where evidence older than the year 1000 has come to light.

In the district of Aldifreda, one of the villages dotting the Caserta area at the foot of the hills, stands the Church of San Pietro Apostolo. It is considered an ancient church, and it was right here that historical evidence dating from before the year 1000 was found, a sign of religious use far longer than its current appearance suggests. We like to point it out to those who want to discover a Caserta different from the monumental one of the Royal Palace, made up of small centres with medieval roots. We recommend combining it with a route through the hill villages, as far as the Benedictine abbey of San Pietro ad Montes and the village of Casertavecchia, to read the oldest history of the area.
