Church · Caserta (CE)

Small church founded by Carlo Acquaviva at a crossroads of old roads, also known in town as the church of Montevergine.
This small church was founded at the wish of Carlo Acquaviva on the edge of the old hamlet of Torre, the core of the future Caserta, at the time when his brother Matteo was its lord. It stood at a strategic point, a crossroads of roads leading to the hill hamlets, Maddaloni and Naples, and also served as a post station for horses. We like its popular history: the faithful of the neighbourhood long called it the church of Montevergine, after a small painting of the face of the Virgin to which they were very devoted, even more than to the two saints of the fine old altarpiece on the high altar. We recommend looking for both images during your visit.
