Villa Carucci

  • Visit: about 50 min
Pictured: Salerno

Villa known as La Torretta, enlarged by the historian Carlo Carucci, incorporating a medieval tower that may have been part of the city walls.

Also called La Torretta, this villa owes its second name to a medieval tower, perhaps part of Salerno's ancient walls, now incorporated into the building. After its renovation in 1905 the house passed to the Salerno historian Carlo Carucci, who had it enlarged, turning a modest three-room dwelling into a residence spread over several levels. The main block lies to the north, while the tower and the entrance, embellished with three-light windows and balustrades, are linked by a long avenue to the garden, once planted mainly with fruit trees. We are intrigued by the rooms inside, painted with nostalgic views of old Salerno. We recommend admiring it from the outside as you pass along Via San Benedetto.
