The medieval castle on the hill above Salerno, with views over the gulf and the city.

The castle owes its name to Arechis II, the Lombard prince who made Salerno his capital. The fortifications were later enlarged by the Normans, the Swabians and the Aragonese. From the terraces you can see the whole Gulf of Salerno, from the Amalfi Coast to the Cilento. Inside there is a small museum with ceramics and archaeological finds.
