The remains of the Norman palace built by Robert Guiscard in Salerno.

Castel Terracena was built between 1076 and 1080 by the Norman duke Robert Guiscard, to have a seat of power distinct from that of the Lombards. It stood in the Ortomagno district, east of the Cathedral. The castle disappeared in the 13th century. Today some towers decorated with yellow and grey tuff inlays can still be made out, in the Largo San Giovanni area.
