Medieval Aqueduct of Salerno
L'acquedotto longobardo con gli archi ogivali, chiamato «ponti del diavolo».
Church · Salerno (SA)

Medieval chapel with frescoed cross vaults, rediscovered in 2009 beneath the State Archives, with the image of St Louis of Anjou.
On the ground floor of the State Archives, with its own entrance from the street, a small surprise lies hidden: the chapel of San Ludovico. Its name comes from a fresco that came to light in 2009, during the restoration of a room used until then as a storeroom. We are moved to think that this treasure remained silent for so long, a few steps from the historic centre. The cross vaults preserve medieval frescoes, and the main painting portrays St Louis of Anjou, son of Charles II the Lame and Mary of Hungary. In the 16th century the building became the seat of the Royal Court of Justice (Regia Udienza), and services for prisoners were celebrated here; in the 17th century the chapel took the title of San Leonardo. Visits are by request.
