Villa Rufolo's 30-metre tower in Ravello, now a vertical museum with a viewpoint over the Amalfi Coast.

For centuries a symbol of the Rufolo family's power, the Torre Maggiore rises some 30 metres above Villa Rufolo, in the centre of Ravello, mirroring the bell tower of the nearby Cathedral. The villa, dating from the 13th century, is famous for its Arab-Norman cloister and for the gardens that inspired Wagner. After a major restoration, since 2017 the tower has housed the Vertical Museum, which tells the villa's story floor by floor. We recommend climbing the hundred or so steps to the viewpoint: from up there an extraordinary view opens over the rooftops of Ravello and the Amalfi Coast, one of the most beautiful we know.
