A 12th-century chapel, also called the War Memorial Shrine, where restoration has revealed 18th-century frescoes and medieval traces.

Also known as the Sacrario ai Caduti (War Memorial Shrine), the chapel of Sant'Agostino dates from the 12th century and is one of those small places in Ravello that tell a great deal in just a few square metres. We like it because it combines medieval religious memory with civic memory, dedicated to those who lost their lives in war, in a single intimate and silent space. The most recent restoration brought to light 18th-century frescoes and the old beaten-earth floor, long hidden beneath the more modern one, with important traces from the medieval period. We recommend noticing, on the left side, the trapdoor with a staircase that led down to underground rooms, now closed off by a wall: a small mystery that stirs curiosity.
