The largest and best-preserved Doric temple in Paestum, dating from the 5th century BC.

The so-called Temple of Neptune was built around the middle of the 5th century BC and is one of the best-preserved Greek temples in the world. It was probably dedicated to Hera, or to Zeus and Apollo: the traditional name is not the real one.The Doric columns and the double row of inner columns have survived almost intact. It is the symbol of Paestum.
