Historic theatre in Capua, already active in the 18th century as the Public Theatre and renovated in 1781, with a neoclassical façade of 1929.
Capua has a long theatrical tradition and the Teatro Ricciardi is its most vivid testimony. As early as the mid-18th century there was a Public Theatre in the town, and the building we see today stems from the thorough renovation carried out in 1781 by the engineer Francesco Gasperi, who gave it the layout still recognisable today.The front facing the street is more recent: the neoclassical façade was added in 1929 and gives the theatre a sober, elegant look. We like to think of this place as a bridge between the Capua of past centuries and that of today: we recommend checking the programme and treating yourself to an evening here after exploring the old town.
