The Museo Campano in Capua, home to the extraordinary collection of the Matres Matutae, once again becomes the concert hall of Autunno Musicale: thirteen concerts between 17 October and 6 December, on Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons, split between the Pianofestival and Cameristica strands.

The heart of the season is the Beethoven Project, now in its second year, with Olaf John Laneri performing the complete piano sonatas, the Quartetto Goldberg the string quartets and the Linos Piano Trio the trios. Pianists Bruno Canino, Francesco Libetta, Christos Fountos and Emanuil Ivanov, the latter two prizewinners at the Busoni Competition, also perform, while Vienna's Aron Quartet gives two chamber evenings. The programme also includes Mozart, Schubert, Dvořák, Bach, Debussy, Kurtág and Clementi.

Our tip: arrive early to visit the museum, then walk to the cathedral and the Roman bridge over the Volturno.
