Church of San Salvatore Maggiore a Corte

On Via Principi Longobardi, near Capua Cathedral, stands the Church of San Salvatore Maggiore a Corte, in the area where the palace of the Lombard princes is thought to have stood: hence the name. Probably founded at the end of the 9th century, it is documented with certainty from 961, and was enlarged in the Swabian period with a new façade and the bell tower.We recommend observing the tripartite façade with three oculi and the square bell tower with two-light windows, then entering the nave and aisles marked by columns. We like the Lombard capitals, the original single-light windows, the frescoes from various periods and the two 9th-century carved slabs with griffins and a lion, rare examples of Lombard art.
