In the old treasury of Ariano Irpino Cathedral, the reliquary of the Holy Thorns and precious sacred silverware.

The Silver Museum occupies the old treasury of Ariano Irpino Cathedral. At its heart is the reliquary holding two Holy Thorns from Christ's crown, given to the diocese in 1269 by Charles I of Anjou in thanks for the city's loyalty to the papacy after the massacre of 1255. We love that the gift is still remembered every year with a historical re-enactment.Among the most precious objects we point out the silver statue of Saint Otto Frangipane, the city's patron saint, the great chalice of Saint Elzear, a 15th-century arm reliquary and a monstrance by Pietro Vannini from 1452. The museum adjoins the diocesan archive and library, and the diocesan museum is just a few steps away: an ideal itinerary for a morning.
