A bridge of Roman origin over the Calore on the Via Traiana, just outside Benevento, part of the Via Appia UNESCO site.

About four kilometres from Benevento, towards Paduli and just before the confluence with the Tammaro, the Ponte Valentino crosses the Calore along the route of the Via Traiana, opened at the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The name probably comes from a church of San Valentino recorded in the Lombard period, where an important market was held. The bridge has a humpbacked profile with three round brick arches on limestone piers, about 76 metres long. In 1917 two arches collapsed and were faithfully rebuilt; traces of opus quadratum survive from the ancient phases. No longer in use, it is part of the UNESCO site Via Appia. Regina Viarum. We like it as a silent witness to the great Roman road network.
