An 18th-century basilica by Filippo Raguzzini on Corso Garibaldi, with works by Solimena and Benefial and a fine wooden choir.

On Piazza Federico Torre, along Corso Garibaldi, stands the basilica of San Bartolomeo Apostolo. The apostle's cult in Benevento dates back to 838, when his body arrived from Lipari. The two churches that housed it over the centuries collapsed in the earthquakes of 1688 and 1702; the present building was designed by Filippo Raguzzini at the behest of Benedict XIII and consecrated in 1729.The two-tier façade with Corinthian capitals leads into a single nave with two chapels on each side and stucco by Raguzzini himself. We suggest not missing the chapel of San Michele, a canvas by Francesco Solimena from 1729, the one by Marco Benefial above the entrance and the painted wooden choir. The sacristy keeps 18th-century vestments, including a cope that belonged to Benedict XIII.
