A Greek-cross church on Corso Garibaldi, known as Sant'Anna, with an altarpiece by Sebastiano Conca and a canvas by Francesco Solimena.

Along Corso Garibaldi in Benevento stands the church of Santa Maria del Carmine, which the people of Benevento fondly call Sant'Anna. It most likely dates from the early 16th century, but the 1732 earthquake almost entirely devastated it, and during rebuilding the entrance onto today's Corso was opened. It was then badly damaged again during the Second World War.Inside we are welcomed by a Greek-cross plan, with a dome and vault adorned with paintings and gilded stucco. We suggest lingering over the polychrome high altar with the large altarpiece by Sebastiano Conca, the canvas by Francesco Solimena of Saint Anne with the Virgin and Child and the wooden statue of Saint Anne from 1766. The wooden Dead Christ by Luigi De Rosa is also remarkable.
