Palazzo Tartaglione

  • Visit: about 50 min

Noble residence in the centre of Marcianise with ceilings painted by Luigi Taglialatela and an English garden inspired by the Royal Palace.

In the old town of Marcianise, Palazzo Tartaglione is one of the most significant examples of the town's noble architecture. The Tartaglione family bought it at the end of the 18th century, when a fire had reduced it to a ruin, and rebuilt it starting from the floors. A large portal leads into a spacious entrance hall and the courtyard, from which a marble staircase rises to the piano nobile. We like the painted ceilings by Luigi Taglialatela, commissioned by Canon Donato Tartaglione, with historical and mythological scenes such as the triumph of Constantine, alongside flowers, seasons and witty mottoes. At the back opens an English garden inspired by the park of the Royal Palace, with cycads, camellias, hydrangeas and citrus trees. A curiosity: the palazzo was the set for some scenes of the film Mozzarella Stories.
