Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Marcianise

  • Visit: about 20 min

In Marcianise, the Church of San Michele Arcangelo holds a wooden crucifix of 1706 and canvases by Paolo De Majo and Raimondo De Dominici.

In Marcianise the Church of San Michele Arcangelo is a place very dear to the community, which according to tradition stands on the remains of a temple of Mars. Here a wooden crucifix of 1706 is venerated, believed to be miraculous for freeing the population from drought and cholera, and taken to Capua in 1992 for the visit of John Paul II.We recommend looking up at the coffered ceiling of the nave, with Raimondo De Dominici's canvas of the expulsion of Lucifer, and looking on the inner façade for Paolo De Majo's Pool of Bethesda. We also like the wooden statues of the Madonna del Monte dei pegni, St Michael and St Venera, and the 1936 frescoes by Luigi Taglialatela.
