Medieval Aqueduct of Salerno
L'acquedotto longobardo con gli archi ogivali, chiamato «ponti del diavolo».
Palace · Salerno (SA)

Elegant 1897 palace in the Rione Nuovo, a symbol of the rise of Salerno's entrepreneurial middle class at the turn of the 20th century.
Among the most refined buildings in the Rione Nuovo, Palazzo Scaramella tells the story of the growth of Salerno's new entrepreneurial middle class between the 19th and 20th centuries, linked above all to the food industry and foreign trade. It was built in 1897 to a design by the engineer Domenico Lorito, with an irregular plan originally laid out over four floors and a basement. We recommend taking a close look at the symmetrical and carefully finished façade: the monumental arched entrance with a floral grille separates two wings with neoclassical cornices, while on the upper floors elegant balconies jut out on scrolled brackets, closed by wrought-iron railings with floral motifs. We like to observe it from the street, in the afternoon light.
