On Corso Garibaldi, the historic palace begun under Pope Paul V, for centuries Benevento's town hall and now a cultural space.

Overlooking Corso Garibaldi, Palazzo Paolo V was begun at the end of the 16th century and takes its name from the pope under whom it was built. Also known as Palazzo di Città, it was the seat of the town hall from the papal era until the 1980 earthquake. We like its Mannerist façade, sober and imposing, which alone tells of the building's institutional weight in papal Benevento.Restored between the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the palace now has a new life as a cultural space, with exhibition areas and an auditorium, and it also houses the museum devoted to the witches of Benevento. We suggest stepping into the courtyard, where plaques recall the city's events and figures from the 17th century to today and where an ancient bas-relief of the Rape of the Sabine Women stands out.
