Medieval palazzo in the centre of Capua linked to the family of Ettore Fieramosca, with a tower, a Gothic portal and an arcaded courtyard.

Along Via Fieramosca, between Piazza dei Giudici and Corso Gran Priorato, stands Palazzo Fieramosca, one of the oldest palazzi in Capua. It began as the home of Bartolomeo di Capua, protonotary of the kingdom, was enlarged in the Angevin period and between 1447 and 1496 belonged to the family of Ettore Fieramosca, the hero of the Challenge of Barletta, after whom it is named. In the 18th century it was the residence of the garrison commander. We like the long grey-tuff façade with pointed windows and a cornice of stylised flowers, and above all the tower, on which an 1886 plaque commemorates Fieramosca. The Gothic portal with Angevin lilies leads into the entrance hall and the arcaded courtyard, where reused columns, Lombard capitals and a Roman funerary cippus tell centuries of history. The palazzo is private: we recommend admiring it from the street.
