A monumental Neo-Renaissance palace beside the Rocca dei Rettori, opened in 1910 and seat of Benevento's prefecture.

At the eastern end of Corso Garibaldi, beside the Rocca dei Rettori, the Palazzo del Governo is one of Benevento's most theatrical buildings. Decided on by the province at the end of the 19th century, it had a long and troubled construction, begun in 1895 to a design by Pietro Paolo Quaglia and passed from one designer to another, until its inauguration in 1910.We like the Neo-Renaissance façade conceived by Quaglia, to which Nicola Breglia added the central projecting section with columns and a wide pincer staircase. The palace, with two inner courtyards and three floors, houses the prefecture. We suggest pairing a look at its exterior with a visit to the vaults below, home to the ARCOS museum of contemporary art.
