Medieval Aqueduct of Salerno
L'acquedotto longobardo con gli archi ogivali, chiamato «ponti del diavolo».
Convent · Salerno (SA)

An ancient Benedictine complex in Salerno's historic centre, documented since 819, linked to one of the city's finest Baroque churches.
Along Via Duomo, a few steps from the Cathedral, stands the San Giorgio complex, documented as early as 819 as a dependency of the abbey of San Vincenzo al Volturno. In the 16th century the city's Benedictine nuns were brought together here, and between 1590 and 1674 the new monastery was built, with later work led by Ferdinando Sanfelice.Suppressed in the Napoleonic era and closed for good in 1866, the monastery now houses public offices, while the church, considered among the finest of Salerno's Baroque, remains open. We recommend going inside to admire the decorated interior and remembering that a frescoed apse older than the 11th century was found beneath the floor.
