Village of early medieval origin linked to Benevento's abbeys and Montevergine, later a fief of the Santa Casa dell'Annunziata of Naples.

The origins of the village of San Martino probably date back to the 9th century, when the church of San Martino depended on an abbey in Benevento. The church of San Martino in Cucciano, mentioned in a bull of 1139 and placed under the jurisdiction of Santa Sofia, may also have stood here. The village had already existed for some time when, in 1345, these lands passed to the monks of Montevergine, on whom it still depends for religious life. It later became a fief of the Santa Casa dell'Annunziata of Naples and took the title of San Martino Ave Gratia Plena. We like strolling among its churches with this history in mind.
