Church of the San Marco ai Monti hamlet, a hill village at 610 metres near the panoramic Belvedere del Sannio.

The Church of San Marco Evangelista is the heart of San Marco ai Monti, a small hamlet of Sant'Angelo a Cupolo set on a hill at about 610 metres, not far from the River Sabato. The village was an independent municipality until 1865 and in 1702 it welcomed Cardinal Vincenzo Maria Orsini, the future Pope Benedict XIII, who celebrated Sunday Mass here. The community celebrates its patron saint on 25 April, while at the end of July St Anne is honoured. We like climbing up here for the landscape: not far away is the Belvedere del Sannio, a natural terrace from which the view takes in much of the Benevento area. We recommend completing the visit by walking the paths through the woods that surround the village.
