Single-arched stone bridge over the Titerno at Cerreto Sannita, linked to the legend of Hannibal crossing with his elephants.

Over the River Titerno, in the territory of Cerreto Sannita, Hannibal's Bridge is also called the sheep bridge, because it was used by livestock to cross. The legend, born in the 19th century and much cherished locally, has it that Hannibal passed over it with his elephants during the Second Punic War, hiding loot on nearby Monte Cigno, where Roman coins were found in 1951.Its date is uncertain and scholars waver between the Roman era and the Middle Ages; in any case the bridge was altered several times, especially after the 1688 earthquake. It is built of local stone with a single round arch and is 13 metres long. Along the provincial road to Cusano Mutri, we recommend noticing the iron monument with elephants installed in 2004.
