18th-century oval church with a stepped majolica dome, now home to the sacred art section of Cerreto's civic museum.

In the old town of Cerreto Sannita stands the Church of San Gennaro, built within the new town layout after the 1688 earthquake and consecrated in 1739. Declared a national monument in 1927, it is one of the most original buildings in the town. Since the late 1990s it has housed the sacred art section of the Civic Museum and Museum of Cerreto Ceramics. We recommend first admiring the façade in local stone with four columns and three arches, then the spectacular dome, about thirty metres high, made of steps clad in yellow and green majolica. Inside, with its oval plan, we like the stucco work by Giacomo Caldarisi, the paintings by Luigi Cacciapuoti and the 18th-century floor in Cerreto ceramic. An unmissable stop for lovers of local art.
