Founded in 1567, Benevento's former archiepiscopal seminary now houses the State Archives and the historic Pacca Library.

The former Archiepiscopal Seminary was founded in 1567 in the old priory of Sant'Andrea, whose church had been built in the 12th century by Cardinal Alberto de Morra, the future Pope Gregory VIII. Enlarged in the 17th century and restored after the earthquakes at the behest of Cardinal Orsini, it was turned into barracks in 1862 and returned to the seminarians in 1880.The neoclassical façade dates from 1881, when it was rebuilt to widen Corso Garibaldi. Next to it is the Pacca Library, built between 1753 and 1755 as the city's first public library. Since 1996 the complex has housed the State Archives: we suggest looking for the library's painted vault.
