Sacred art museum in Capua Cathedral and its crypt, with paintings from the 14th to 18th centuries, medieval capitals and Roman urns.

The Diocesan Museum of Capua is housed in the cathedral, between the Corpus Domini chapel and the crypt of Santo Stefano. Officially founded in 1992, it gathers works and furnishings from the cathedral chapels damaged by the 1943 bombing and from numerous town churches closed after the 1980 earthquake. The idea of a collection dates back to the 19th century, however, when Cardinal Cosenza began recovering fragments scattered in the garden. We like the Madonna and Child between Saints Stephen and Lucy by Antoniazzo Romano, together with paintings from the 14th to the 18th century and medieval capitals. On the lower level are marble works, including Roman cinerary urns. Silverware, vestments, fragments of majolica floors and coats of arms complete the visit. We recommend combining it with the cathedral; the San Gabriello branch is currently closed.
