Capaccio's clock tower, the former bell tower of the church of San Pietro, rebuilt after collapsing in 1902.

In Piazza Orologio rises Capaccio's civic tower, originally the bell tower of the old church of San Pietro. In 1902 the tower collapsed and was rebuilt in less than three years, taking on the 20th-century look we see today in the centre of the town.We like the story of its bell: the new sound did not convince the townspeople, who decided to donate silver and gold objects to be melted down to make it more harmonious. In 1997 lightning damaged it, and the new bell was made by recasting the old one, thus preserving a piece of that collective memory. We recommend stopping in the square as the hour strikes.
